AARCA offers a non-judgemental recovery and self-help service for adult survivors of childhood abuse.
AARCA was founded in 2013. Several of us were approached to set up an organisation to help fill the lack of help for adult survivors in Essex when the charity HEAL closed. There were 140 people and 2 year waiting list for people wanting to join the charity when HEAL finally closed. This meant that only 60% of support was offered for those who asked for it. By setting up AARCA, our mission is to fill in that gap and help more people who need it.
AARCA is one of the only organisations in the UK that work with survivors of all genders, regardless of the type of abuse they suffered. We believe this unique approach enables members to gain a greater understanding of the impact abuse has and helps a more rounded recovery from the trauma.
We offer a variety of services including workshops, support groups, social meetings, creativity workshops and discussion groups.
We can only offer on-going support to people who can attend our groups in Colchester. We do not offer a telephone helpline, but please click on our links page for details of other organisations that could help you in this way.
Our board and facilitators are a mix of survivors and non survivors. This enables the organisation to take a balanced view on our development while keeping the needs of our members at our core.
We are independently funded, and welcome donations, See our “How you can help us page” for details.
